This stunning vintage glass bird feeder is know as Dahlia and Diamonds. It was repurposed from a light shade from early last century. Imagine it hanging in your backyard, attracting the birds you most enjoy watching. Or even better, as a perfect gift for your mother or grandmother who mostly “have everything.” In blue, it is a most unique gift and one that will be the envy of your friends and neighbors.
Will it withstand the outdoor elements? Oh yes. While it looks delicate it most likely hung in early 20th century homes that were not air-conditioned. Lightbulbs then reached 400-500 degrees F – so much hotter than our sun on the hottest day. The glass is thick to withstand heat, as well as, sudden changes in temperature that went along with housing back in the day. Mine hang outside and have withstood freeze, hail, wind and heat. The hardware allows the piece to sway in the breeze. It weights about 3 lbs without bird seed.
This is also a beautiful piece to hang inside or under a porch. It is lovely as a succulent planter or candle holder.
The blue and white bowl is a dahlia shape with a gently scallop around the piece. The bottom is clear cut glass in diamond patterns. When the light moves though the glass it is amazing.
It comes with a black finish chain about 18″ in length.
